Using Filters

Definition

Each view at each level has a filter. The filter defines, for the current view at the current level, a subset of the information in the view. If you are working in a large project, filters can help you focus on important details in a view.

How to use a filter

ÿ To use a filter:

  1. Move to the level that you are interested in.
  2. Select the view that you are interested in.
  3. Select View | Filter | Edit to define the filter criteria that you want.

The Edit Filter window for the current level appears. The boxes in the window correspond to the columns displayed in the information area in Detail view. (The Name box corresponds to the Name column. It is not the name of the filter.)

  4. Specify the information that you want to appear in the information area.
  5. Click Apply to apply the filter, or OK to define the filter without applying it. The edited definition remains in effect until you delete it or exit from the UML suite.

How to turn a filter on and off

ÿ To turn a filter on or off, select View | Filter | Filter. If you select the menu item, you turn the filter on; if you clear the menu item, you turn the filter off.

How to delete a filter

Deleting a filter deletes the filter criteria that you specified. The UML suite defines the filter so that it does not restrict the information displayed by the view.

ÿ To delete a filter, select View | Filter | Delete.

Changing levels or views

A view corresponds to one view at one level. When you move to another level or select another view, the UML suite uses the filter for that level and view. The UML suite preserves the state of the previous filter and reinstates it when you return to the corresponding level and view.
