Using Browser Views

Purpose

If you are working in a large project, views and filters can help you focus on important details.

Definition

The Browser does not display all repository data at one time, it displays one view of the information. A view defines a subset of information. When you select a view, the UML suite displays that subset of information in the Browser.

The UML suite provides a set of views, such as Default and Customization, some UML suite modules supply additional views, and you can create your own views by customizing the UML suite.

How to select a view

ÿ To select a view:

  1. Select File | View.
  2. From the View menu, select the view that you want to use.

The UML suite updates the information area of the Browser, displaying only the objects that are in the selected view.

The views listed here are supplied with the UML suite. Until you select an alternative view, the Browser uses the Default view

Security views

The repository is a shared resource. To protect it, you can use the Security module. This module allows you to define roles and to specify access to repository elements based on those roles. It allows you to create users and assign the users one or more roles. The UML suite restricts access to the repository based on the users currently active roles and the access rules specified for those roles. The views listed here are supplied with the Security module.

Corporate modeling views

With the Corporate Modeling module, you can define and reuse groups. The views listed here are supplied with the Corporate Modeling module.

Groups

A group is a set of file versions and items; for example, a group might contain part of a diagram and the items defined in that part of the diagram. You create a group at the package level, then promote that saved group to corporate level where it can be reused by the UML suite users on other projects.
